Brain Surgery with Pink Martini

Pınar Soylu Ozcan, a teacher of Turkish, survived a tumor in her brain that threatened her ability to speak with a successful surgery. Pınar teacher, who listened to the Pink Martini in the operation she entered without sleeping, says, “I never felt pain''.

Pınar Soylu Ozcan, just 33 years old, started to experience severe headaches 6 months ago. Ozcan, who worked as a Turkish teacher in a middle school in Kocaeli, did not care about the pain at first. Ozcan, while raising his 7-year-old daughter Derin, continued to work for the education of her students, whom she called “spiritual children”. However, the headaches experienced by the Pınar teacher started to become unbearable every day.

The tissues should be protected.

On November 10, the teacher who collapsed in the classroom was taken to the hospital. Ozcan, who was determined to have a 3-inch tumor in his brain, needed to have an emergency operation. But there was a big problem there. It was necessary to protect the intact tissues so that they did not lose the ability to speak. Pınar teacher, who risks losing his ability to speak during an operation to be performed by sleeping , knocked on the door of Professor Dr. Turker Kilic with a last hope.

She was saved in music.

On December 20, Pınar teacher, who underwent open brain surgery without being put to sleep by Image and Physiology guided brain surgery method, said that she wanted to listen to Pink Martini during the surgery. Pınar teacher, accompanied by Pink Martini, survived the 3-inch tumor in his brain and explained the healing process to Milliyet:

“I did not want to lose my speech ability, such a situation was equivalent to breaking from life for me. When the tumour was removed with the Pink Martini, I felt no pain. It has been 3 months since the operation. For the first 15 days, I had tongue slips. In time, my complaints disappeared. Dr. Turker said, “I can fully recover and return to work in 6 months.”

We Made Our Patient Talk.

Bahçeşehir University Faculty of Medicine - Medical Park Head of brain surgery main Science, Professor Dr. Turker Kilic, said about the surgery:

"Our patient had to use his language ability because he was a teacher. For this reason, we decided to have open surgery and we had our patient talk during the operation. In this way, we ensured that our patient was healthy without losing his ability to speak. Thanks to the method applied, we protected the speech center and saw that the tissue was removed, and we did brain mapping with both anatomical and physiological guidance.”
