Prof. Dr. Türker Kılıç shared his experience at Harvard

Prof. Dr. Türker Kılıç, a member of the European Academy of Science and Arts, who has dedicated his life to the prevention and treatment of brain diseases, participated in the Conference on Brain Surgery at the Harvard University Department of Neurosurgery as a visiting professor for the third time. In his presentation titled "20 Years of Experience in AVM Biology and Treatment," he shared his experiences.

Speaking at the Department of Neurosurgery Conference at Harvard University, which was attended by some of the world's leading scientists, Prof. Dr. Türker Kılıç, the Founding Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Bahçeşehir University (BAU), shared his research on vascular diseases and his experiences in brain surgery with the medical community.

Prof. Dr. Türker Kılıç, who completed his postgraduate studies on brain tumors and vascular malformations (brain vascular diseases) at Harvard University between 1997 and 2000 and continues his research in these fields, made important statements at the conference where he was specially invited for the third time. Firstly, Kılıç mentioned his studies on vascular diseases and stated that "About 3,585 patients associated with brain and vascular diseases have been treated in our clinic. One thousand six hundred and thirty-four of these patients had Brain Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) and 1,098 had brain aneurysms, also known as 'balloons' in the public. We also carry out Gamma Knife treatments, a groundbreaking device for the treatment of brain tumors and surgeries. In the clinical studies conducted on tumors, more than 23,000 patients were treated with surgical or gamma knife methods.

Reminiscing on his research published in 2000, Professor Dr. Türker Kılıç, who completed his residency in brain tumors and vascular malformations (brain vascular diseases) at Harvard University between 1997 and 2000 and continued his research in these fields, made important statements at the Brain Surgery Department Conference where leading scientists in the world participated. First, referring to his studies on vascular diseases, Kılıç said, "Approximately 3,585 patients associated with brain and vascular diseases were treated in our clinic. One thousand six hundred thirty-four of these patients had brain arteriovenous malformations (AVM) and 1,098 had brain aneurysms, which are commonly known as 'balloons.' We also perform Gamma Knife treatments, a revolutionary device in the treatment of brain tumors and surgeries. More than 23,000 patients were treated with surgical or Gamma Knife methods in clinical studies related to tumors.

Professor Dr. Türker Kılıç, who recalled that his research was published in 2000, said, "After clinical trials approved by the largest institution in the US that funds medical research (NIH), the molecule I worked on became a drug. This drug is currently used in the treatment of some brain cancers." Kılıç also stated that the drug is not only used in patients with brain tumors, but also in leukemia patients. Sharing another research he conducted with scientists, Professor Dr. Türker Kılıç also explained how congenital brain vascular diseases can be treated, saying, "We conducted important studies to understand the biology of these diseases. The research groups I have led so far have produced publications in a total of 18 different scientific indexed journals (SCI)."

Sharing his studies on Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) during the 20-year research process and how they can be adapted to the clinic, Professor Dr. Türker Kılıç shared his speech at Harvard University with scientists, thus attending the conference at one of the most prestigious universities in the world for the third time. Kılıç, who gave his first speech on the drug he worked on in 2000, gave his second speech on tumor and skull surgery in 2009.
